Meditation class to study ‘Wheel’

The “Wheel of Life,” Buddha’s only known work of art, is one of the most recognized images in Buddhism, after depictions of the Buddha himself. The revered “Wheel” depicts the entire scheme of human life.

From 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus, instructor Patty Johnson will lead a free class examining this fascinating subject, in relationship to how we can end suffering and gain emotional freedom through meditation and discourse.

College entrance essay course set

The College of Continuing Education and Community Service at the University of Hawaii at Hilo will conduct a one-day workshop titled “Jumpstart Your College Application Essay” from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 18 in UCB 113.

The cost is $50.

Frances Kai-Hwa Wang, an author, writer, speaker, activist and multicultural educator at the University of Michigan, will conduct the “college application essay boot camp.”
